- note
- Inspired in part by the ceiling light in my bedroom and the wallpaper I found in the bathroom when I bought my house 25 years ago, this design makes use of SVG's ease of replication and transparency. The star pattern is a relaxed version of the union of the US flag; here the line drawing remains visible and the stars line up informally compared to the regimented rows of the flag, twisting out of line and overlapping the border.

Text: Golden Night.txt:
- Golden Night
- provenance
- October 2012; version 2 in June 2014
- media
- scalable vector graphics
- note
- Partly inspired by a stylized forest selected for the 2010 Art Annual at the Neville Public Museum, the overall motif is a grove of trees at night (perhaps illuminated by the light of a campfire). It is not coincidence, however, that the stylized trees resemble tuning forks and that the lines fading away into the distance might remind the viewer of a musical staff. This was my first work using Scalable Vector Graphics as a medium of purely digital synthetic art.
- note
- Version 2 (2014) corrected positioning of the horizontal background bars and changed the framing colors

- chosen for the Inkdrop Arthaus Print of the Month Club (for 2015)

- Digital photo of the mural on my parent's living room wall. Painted in acrylic directly on the wall around 1974; the wall paint shows through as the yellow brick of the path. Three of the four seasons are depicted. There was a thought of creating winter as a separate mural but I never did that.

Text: puce_stamp.txt:
- Puce Stamps Series 2023
-
- Puce Stamps were a running joke in the 1962 daily Pogo comic
- strips by Walt Kelly. The Puce Stamps were making fun of the
- popularity of trading stamps (with special reference to the widely
- used Green Stamps). In 2023 however trading stamps are virtually
- unknown. Kelly's stamp design brought up some 60-year-old memories
- of pasting the stamps in the stamp books for the minimal cash
- value -- as a 1960s child any cash of my own was worth wetting and
- pasting the stamps and in truth the task did reinforce the solid
- middle class capitalist values of accepting a pointless task,
- carrying it through to its wasteful completion, and receiving a
- miniscule reward for participation.
-
- Quoting from November 27, 1962:
-
- HOWLAND OWL: Them puce stamps is okay far as they goes ...
