It is an amazing world we live in today. Once upon a time you would have to spend your evenings alone or in the company of the few neighbors available in your village. Today, in contrast, we have the ability to connect to the world.
From the privacy of your own home, alone, you can turn on your computer and reach out to 6 billion people, 3.5 billion of whom also have access.
You can sign onto a chat room or discussion forum and exchange ideas with virtually anyone, other than those with ideas worth exchanging.
You can look up virtually any information known to humankind, except that particular information you want to discover.
Or, of course, you can go over to the house of a friend or neighbor and have an actual conversation with a real person. Just like in the old days.
