Getting Recognized It is unclear to me just why the school district staff felt compelled to public recognition. I'm just an old guy with a checkbook. (It's like axle grease, I tell people. The grease is important, but it is the wheel that does the work.) When my father received a similar certificate from the library in 1996 it was because he was too old to continue volunteering to bring books to the jail. He was 83 then, so I'm hoping for another couple of decades. Maybe they'll have to give me a second appreciation.
