The Lake

Before:
when Haligk rose up from the lake.
The boat mother danced. She danced
and ripples spread out across the lake.

Before:
when Haligk rose out from the water.
He rose up. He floated.
He broke the surface of the water.

Haligk's hair brushed his face
and water ran down his torso.
The lake dripped from his arms.
The water flowed down when Haligk rose up.

Before:
when Haligk rose up from the lake.
The boat mother welcomed him.
She drew him from the water and set him in the boat.
She set him in the sunshine.
She danced in the boat. She danced
and ripples spread out across the lake.

Before:
when the People rose out of the lake.
They floated through the water. They stood.
The lake flowed off them
and the boat mother danced.
She danced
and ripples spread across the lake.
