In 2002, Wheatley Cat was given to me as a kitten by Travis, Molly, and Tracie (to shake me out of missing Tiger). Wheatley was a shoulder cat for many years and became a mouser to compete with Smokey. I named him for his coat color. I thought the fur might be the color of barley but I was worried I'd mispronounce it as Barf-ly. Instead I settled on wheat color; mispronouced that would come out Sweetly. (My neighbor told me later that a previous owner of our house was also named Wheatley.) Wheatley lived for just over 20 years, outlasting a few dogs.
